  7. There are some special considerations when using VICE on MacOS X I therefor 
  8. urge you to read through this file before using any of the software installed 
  9. with this package!

  11. ABOUT MACVICE

  14. The MacVICE application is not a part of the normal VICE package and its only 
  15. purpose is to make life a bit easier for the average Mac user for further 
  16. details on MacVICE see the end of this file.

  18. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  19. -------------------
  20. You will need at least X11 version 1.0 from Apple and Mac OS X 10.3 to
  21. use this software. Perhaps it is possible to manually install libXv 
  22. and use other versions of X11 and Mac OS X but this is untested and 
  23. unsupported.

  25. MAC SPECIFIC ISSUES
  26. ___________________
  27. You will need X11 v1.0 or later from Apple installed to use this software.
  28. This software has been verified to work on Mac OS X 10.3 and later.
  29.  
  30. The VICE emulators heavily rely on the use of a two-button mouse. Most Mac 
  31. users do not have this type of mouse, however it is possible for X11 to 
  32. emulate a two (or three) button mouse. If you are using Apples X11.app go to 
  33. Preferences... under the X11 menu and select the appropriate option.

  35. It is not possible to move the files (or the VICE directory itself) to 
  36. another location.

  38. The VICE emulators do not have a "normal" menu, instead the (two) menus are
  39. activated by the left and right mouse-buttons. Important menu options 
  40. (for x64) would be (LB = Left mouse-button, RB = You guess):

  42. * LB->Attach Disk Image->Unit #8
  43.      Attach a disk image
  44. * RB->Keyboard Settings->Keyboard mapping type->Positional Mapping (US)
  45.      Make the keyboard act like a c64 keyboard so you can write all the 
  46.      characters as you would on a regular c64 keyboard, this option might be 
  47.      especially important on non US keyboards.
  48. * RB->Drive settings->Enable true drive emulation
  49.      Disable this option to speed up load time (less compatible)

  51. MACVICE

  54. MacVICE is NOT an emulator and is NOT (yet) connected to the VICE project. 
  55. MacVICE is simply a launcher for the wonderful emulators produced by the VICE 
  56. team that allows Mac users to start there emulator sessions in a way more 
  57. natural for them.

  59. THE VICE TEAM SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED OR DISCREDITED IN ANY WAY FOR THIS 
  60. SOFTWARE. NOR SHALL I (Daniel Aarno) RECEIVE ANY CREDIT FOR THE WORK DONE ON 
  61. THE EMULATORS WHICH IS THE PRODUCT OF THE HARD WORKING VICE TEAM.
